Fauré Summer School

After many years, I am resurrecting, albeit briefly, the once traditional Summer School. The intention is to offer some 'note bashing' for November's Fauré Requiem. The evenings will take place only on three Tuesdays: 30th July, 20th and 27th August. We'll be in the church downstairs with the piano, just from 8 to 9.15pm each time. They are purely voluntary, but I very much hope many of you will wish to take advantage of them. It will ease your load and mine in the run-up to the performance! Please note in your diaries and on your calendars and try and your utmost to attend. 'The Board' is currently going round on Tuesdays!

Christmas

Such is the life of those who run our Choir........ the music for the Christmas Concert has been put into writing, albeit as a draft. The music for Midnight Mass and Epiphany will follow shortly. Bernard is busy arranging things for the wind group from the Orchestra that will be joining us. No peace for the wicked............ (that's me, not Bernard!). PLEASE NOTE that the Christmas Concert will start at 2.30pm not 3pm this year. Sometime I must think about what happens at other times next term! Tony

Farewells

As you will all now know, Archbishop Peter has has agreed with Father Tom that he should have a 'sabbatical', following which he may be appointed to another parish as yet unknown. He leaves us week commencing 17th June to travel to Rome.

I'm sure you will join me in wishing Father Tom well for the future and a very happy run-up to his intended retirement to Ireland.

By the time the July UPDATE is issued we will have had the very great pleasure of welcoming Father Peter Edwards to Bart's as Parish Priest. As with all such times of flux there will be challenges, opportunities and change. Please do give him a very warm welcome when he arrives. I will write more about Father Peter in the next issue.

We also say goodbye to Paul Milligan as Parish Deacon. He's been a huge support behind the scenes for both me and the Choir, and I hope you will all take an opportunity to offer him every happiness in any future appointment he may take up.

Outing to Finchcocks Musical Museum 9th June

10:15 (promptly!) Depart from Green Lane near Hermitage Lane

The rest you know! Hope you like my chosen choice of transport - comes all the way from Purfleet in Essex just for us!

This month's quiz question

An easy one this time. In what year did the parish raise over £15,000 to enlarge and refurbish the organ.

May's question has seen ten correct answers received so far.......

The answer to the the April quiz question was: the feast of St. Francis of Assisi is celebrated on 4th October, and the lucky winner (when she eventually owned up after a reminder from me) was Mary M.!

Please remember in your prayers...

Maria, Jan's sister, Anne M. Mary E. & Frank and Jo in your prayers. I know such prayers are very much appreciated indeed.

You have talent

We have been very fortunate in the recent year or so in welcoming a number of people into our midst that have proved very loyal and wonderful singers. Please do make use of the little 'YOU HAVE A TALENT' cards I had produced recently, both within the parish and beyond. The future of our Choir depends on a reliable turnover of members, and the responsibility for that cannot rest on my shoulders alone.

If you enjoy Choir (most of the time!), then others will surely do so as well... to both our benefit and that of the parish.

Somewhere.......

.. along the way between now and Christmas we are likely to be asked to sing at the induction of Father Peter as Parish Priest..... just a thought!

And finally.......

I have been called up for Jury Service for a couple of weeks from now. Too many years of saying I've never been called has finally caught up with me! Please bear this in mind if I do not return emails, texts or 'phone calls as swiftly as is generally the case.
