A Welcome

I'm sure you'll join with me in warmly welcoming Father Peter Edwards as our Parish Priest later this month. His first weekend here will be 27/28th July.

Father Peter has been Parish Priest at St. Joseph’s New Malden since 1998. He is a Trustee and Director of the Catholic Truth Society (CTS) and Chairman of its Editorial Board. Father Peter is also Director of the Permanent Diaconate in our Diocese, Chairman / Director of the Seminary Formation Programme of Permanent Deacons for nine dioceses of Southern England and Wales and a Foundation Governor of the
British Province of the Confraternity of Catholic Clergy (along with Father Richard Whinder who many of you will no doubt remember fondly).

He follows in his move to Bart's his some-time Organist and Director of Music, one Antony Matthews. Father Philip Glandfield was also curate there before coming to Bart's!  I wonder what the parishioners at St. Joseph's think of the exodus (balanced a little by Father Richard's move from here to there in 2006!)?

As with any such changes, there will be both challenges and opportunities for us all: hopefully we will rise (as we always have done) to the former and fully embrace the latter
. Patience has been our watch-word for a number of years now!

Father Deo happily remains with until 2014 at the earliest.

Music Checking 2013 - please read carefully

Music Checking is an absolute necessity for us all each year to a) keep tabs on an archive of thousands of pieces of music worth thousands of pounds, and b) to rotate the repertoire according to the needs ahead. If there is good reason for you not to be present on the day then the expectation is that you will arrange with one of your fellow singers to have them check your folder for you. Given the size of her tasks as librarian and archivist, I know Jeannette would be more than grateful (ecstatic even!) for every possible assistance. Many thanks. Tony

How they do things in Limerick

An 'interesting' video (hat-tip to Daniel) of the Blessing of Babies with the Redeptorists at Mount St. Alphonsus, Limerick a couple of years ago. I don't think we'll see anything like it at Bart's anytime soon!!

How we may be doing things in Norbury

An interesting commentary from a Parish Priest - we should be mindful of it, I believe, for the future. You may also wish to familiarise yourself with THIS little bit of helpful 'advice' (I'll have amended hard copies for 7th July): it will be brought to the attention of us all before too long, I suspect!

Our day out at Finchcocks

What a wonderful day out! I'm so pleased you all enjoyed it (and my bus!) so much. Even those who remember Routemaster buses have probably never ever travelled on the M25 in one!! There is a small gallery of pictures HERE. If anyone is able to add to this from photographs they took on the day then please do let me know so that I am able to add them to the record.

Sumer is icumen in - hopefully!

An interesting entry on Wikipedia for this; a fascinating read!

This month's quiz question

An easy one this time. Which commodity is the founder and benefactor of Streatham Library associated with?

June's question has seen only three answers so far, and we might not need to draw a winner!

The answer to the May quiz question was Mezzo-soprano, and the winner was Sabina.

Ave Maris Stella.....

...an improvisation with a difference - lovely!

Please remember in your prayers...

Maria, Jan's sister, Anne M., Mary E. & Frank and Jo in your prayers. I know such prayers are very much appreciated indeed.

And finally.......

Enjoy the summer break with your families and friends. Let's hope the weather improves! Choir starts again on Tuesday 3rd September, and we have Mass for Eddie and Jean Saunders' Golden Wedding Anniversary at 11:30 8th September, so please do try and be with us from day one, and then every Tuesday thereon.
