Christmas is Nigh! Happy Christmas to you and yours NOTE The Choir's On-line Music List for Christmas 2013 is ONLY available HERE. It's liable to change, but hopefully not too much!
Our Christmas
Concert will be entry by programme:
Rather than selling tickets in advance, and then programmes on the
door on the night, I intend to revert to selling programmes in
advance as we always used to. They will still be at a modest cost of
£2 each, but they will also double as tickets. Only five each to
sell; please do your utmost.
Given the £2 includes a mince pie
and a glass of mulled wine the programmes should be easier than
ever to sell! |

Carols from Kings College 2013 Keep an eye on the King's College, Cambridge Web site in December for publication of their annual 2013 Service Booklet which you are able to download and view. I'd be interested to know, once you've heard the service broadcast, if you hear a carol that you believe we might enjoy learning for 2014. As you will be aware..... ..... Father Deo has now been formally appointed Parochial Administrator rather than just acting-Parish Priest by Bishop Pat. We should be pleased at this, as it brings some stability to the parish. We are still waiting to have the promised curate to assist him appointed . What is a Parochial Adminstrator? My understanding is that, in the context of clergy, a Parochial Administrator is appointed when a Parish Priest vacates his parish (for whatever reason) and either a) a Parish Priest is not available to be appointed, or b) there is a pastoral need to administer the parish before a Parish Priest can be appointed. A Parochial Administrator generally has a temporary role. He has exactly the same duties and rights as a Parish Priest, but his incumbency may end at any time at the Bishop's discretion: he also has a duty to report his progress to his Bishop. |
Drinks and nibbles after Christmas Do hope you'll all be able to get together as usual: Tuesday 7th January in the upstairs hall. I would be absolutely delighted if you would encourage any others you believe might consider singing with us to attend, and get to know us, on the night. Dates List 2014 I always try and keep the latest Dates List on our Web site HERE. Please would you note the 2014 dates in your 2014 diaries and calendars so that you have a constant reminder of when we're singing as the year progresses. Thank you. Croydon 2018 Click HERE for a short (and silent!) computer-aided video produced by Westfield and Hammerson showing the changes that will occur in Croydon as the Whitgift Centre and Centrale are re-developed. It's good to see that the historic frontage to Allders will be retained. Ann & Des Tully As I recently announced, Ann and Des have emigrated to Ireland. Ann was a member of the Choir for very many years, and I thank her for her contribution. If anyone would like her new address, then please ask me. |
Prayers, please..... Please do continue to remember George (and Mariacristina) Norton in your prayers. Those of you who follow his wonderful blog will by now have had a great insight into his life whilst in St. George's, as well as that without! Please also continue to remember, Anne Mitra, Madeleine's husband and Mary & Frank Elliott. Music in the Catholic Church There was a very good Telegraph blog entry from the great Catholic composer James MacMillan (obviously no relation to Andrew!) on the newspaper's Web site on 20th November. An interesting read, however you might feel about music in the Catholic church This month's Quiz Question
A question related to
last October's: apart from the four windows high in the nave, where else in our church are there images representing
each of
the four evangelists? |
