St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE  APRIL 2014

Coffee Morning 30th March

As has already been noted, our fifth-Sunday Coffee Morning coincides with Mothering Sunday. No doubt there will be extra cakes baked by mothers who might be unable to give as much time to the occasion as they would otherwise have done, and no doubt the gentlemen will see this as an opportunity to add to the cake sale; even I will be bringing some cakes! Don't forget to put your clocks forward an hour before you go to bed!

Easter and Good Friday 2014

I have put up an 'almost final' Music List HERE (and the latest Dates List HERE). With just a few more weeks to go I'd really appreciate the best of attendance on Tuesday evenings from now on.... PLEASE.

After Easter we will have a brief break, with no practice on Tuesday 22nd April, but that leaves us with just Tuesday 29th April to prepare for our 4th May Mass. This Mass will be said for the Choir's Intention of the 'Welfare of Hazel Timmins'.

June's Update

The June edition of Update might be either very early or very late! I shall be in America for the last couple of weeks of May. Antony will be rehearsing and conducting the June Mass while I retire to the console. There will be no Choir Practice on Tuesday 27th May (take that smile off your face immediately!). Tony

Congratulations.....

..... to Jeannette and Joe Ryan on the birth of their first grandchild, Sophie Annabel, born to son Matthew and his wife Kat on Tuesday 25th March, the feast of the Annunciation. May she always be a source of great joy to them both. Also to Kitty and Guiseppe Ferma, whose latest grandchild is a first for their daughter, Fiona.

Prayers, please.....

George Norton, Anne Mitra, Mary & Frank Elliott and Maria Leszczynska & Family and Hazel Timmins (Jeannette Ryan's mother). George posted a brief video HERE on 19th March.

Please also remember David Pattinson, one time bass in our Choir (and the bass soloist in The Crucifixion with us when we first performed it in 1996), who is to be ordained a Deacon on 21st June.

April's Quiz Question

Which saint does this statue in our church represent, and in which European capital was a church built between 1888 and 1911 and dedicated to him?

February's answer was nine (seven readings, plus the Epistle and Gospel). Well done to Mary M. for being 'first out of the hat'! There's still time to answer March's question..... just!

Agnus Dei Selmeczi

It's in your folders, and I'd love us to sing it as a Communion Motet, maybe stopping at about 2' 27".... the first time we sing it, anyway. It works so much more nicely with with an organ accompaniment:

2014 Choir Mass of Thanksgiving

Father Deo has, as you might have seen on the Dates List, kindly agreed to Celebrate this for us on the second Tuesday back after the summer break, Tuesday 9th September, a lovely way to start the year. The Choir was founded by Anne Rowntree at Father Carolin's request way back on the 19th September 1969, so this will be our 45th Anniversary!!

For your coffee breaks

A fascinating piece from the BBC about the statue of Christ the Redeemer overlooking Rio de Janeiro HERE.

Allegri's Miserere... 'but not as we know it'. Click HERE to listen and explore further. Hat-tip to Father Tim Finnigan.

And finally... The Tiptree Sneeze for those of you who haven't heard it yet! Click on the link in the editorial to see the very short video.
