Good Friday and Easter - well done to you all!

Good Friday was simply lovely. After last year's near-shambles (nothing to do with the singing!), the simplicity of the devotional music you sang was well nuanced, and thoughtful. Special thanks to Ken and Rob (never easy singing on such a big occasion without the organ to keep you company), and to Antony, whose restraint was just perfectly judged.

The Vigil went very well too. The Ave Verum was beautiful, and we even got through Christ the Lord without too many hiccoughs!! Well done indeed to Ken for the finest rendition of the Exsultet we've heard at Bart's for many years, and to him and Jeannette for the accuracy of the psalm singing. I didn't pick up the 'quote' from The Crucifixion in Antony's improvisation during the sprinkling.... did you?! So that's it for another year. Hopefully we'll be in a position to freshen up the music for the Vigil next year - fingers crossed. Well done to you all.

A very happy Easter-tide to each and every one of you, and yours. See you all on the 29th May.

May Devotions & Benediction

Choir led on Sunday 18th May at 4pm - if you can make it it would be lovely: couple of Marian hymns + the traditional Benediction hymns...... I'll firm up the programme when I know how many of you will be able and willing to attend.

Tony

Friday 6th June 10am Mass

Father Deo has asked if we might sing for Christian Leggett's ordination into Minor Orders by Bishop Pat at this Mass. Obviously I cannot say what we will sing until I know how many of you would be prepared to attend - I'll be asking after Easter. Christian is moving towards ordination as Deacon, which is really good to know. Please note in your diaries.

Choir Outing 11th May

We shall leave from the bottom of Green Lane as usual, at 9.30am prompt. This allows people the opportunity to attend Mass on either on the Saturday evening or 8.30am Sunday morning. Your entry/travel tickets will be given out on the coach on the way down.

We'll aim to leave for our return journey at about 5-5.30pm. I'll let you all know the cost on the 29th April, once I have bought the tickets. Once again, I propose to use some of Doris's bequest to us to heavily subsidise the day.

May's Quiz Question

In which year (give or take one) would this press announcement have appeared?

March's answer was St. Mary the Virgin, Beddington. Lambeth Palace was offered by some, but St. Elphege pre-dated the Palace somewhat! I'll Draw March and April together on Tuesday 6th May There's still time to answer April's question..... just!

The singing priest

Father Ray Kelly, parish priest at St. Brigid's, Oldcastle, Co. Meath surprises a happy couple. When I first saw this it had received 140,000+ views - it's over 32 million now!! You might be one of the 32 million of course! There's something rather compelling about it........

Avalon Quiz Night 10th May

Saturday 10th May, 7.30pm for 8pm start. Please let John know soonest if you can make up a Choir table of eight with him. Bring your own drinks and food. £6 a head. Teas etc., and nibbles provided. Quizmaster is yours truly!

Prayers, please.....

George Norton, Anne Mitra, Mary & Frank Elliott and Maria Leszczynska & Family and Hazel Timmins (Jeannette Ryan's mother).

June's Update

(I'll get it right this time around!) The next edition of Update might be either very early or very late! I shall be in America for the last couple of weeks of May. Antony will be rehearsing and conducting the June Mass while I retire to the organ console. There will be no Choir Practice on Tuesday 27th May (you can still take that smile off your face!).

Easter is late this year......

April 20th: last in 2003, 2014, next in 2025

For your coffee breaks

A new Magna Carta is suggested by David Thomas in the Telegraph HERE.

I've always loved the cello as an instrument. I'm obviously not alone; when I last looked over 16 million other people had viewed THIS too. I'm surprised their bows lasted at all!

The announcement from the Choir of King's College, Cambridge that it is to stop using boy trebles shocked the entire choral music-loving establishment at the beginning of April.

Come and Sing Duruflé Requiem

There will be a workshop during the day for singers. More details to follow

Personally, I'm a number two man, but I was really left puzzling over the possible antics of the remaining 11%!
