Huge thanks to you all.....

After a most wonderful Christmas, way back back in December 2013, things have (by and large!) gone smoothly this year again. Pat yourselves on the back for what you have achieved. I'm always hugely grateful for the support you offer me in your work for the Choir, the Parish and the Good Lord, and I know Father Deo believes it is quite wonderful to have a parish with such well-founded Polyphony and Plainchant Choirs. He is constantly expressing gratitude to you for what you do week in week out.... and on the Sundays we sing!

In September the Plainchant Mass at 11:30 on the third Sunday of the month is scheduled to return to Latin, something that will bring back many happy memories for some of us, and be very new to quite a few. At that point the current mix of Latin and English that is currently so frustrating for a number of you should cease - the clergy will have had their practice time! Whether the Latin Mass survives or not will depend on the reaction of the parish to it, and I will be reviewing it with Fathers Deo and Paul in January 2015.

Just so we are all sure...

.... Choir starts again on Tuesday 2nd September, to prepare for our annual Mass of Thanksgiving a week later on Tuesday 9th as well as our October Mass.

Have a wonderful summer break. Will it be the hottest on record, or the wettest?! Tony

Choir Party + Music Checking

Our 8th July Party is on the horizon - many thanks to Jane for undertaking the organisation this year. No doubt you have all pledged your dishes or donations by now, and I'm really looking forward to the occasion.

Once a year we check our folders - it's not arduous, but it's the only way to keep on top of the archive. I don't envisage too many changes this year. As before, the church will be open from 7.30pm on 15th July and once you've checked and changed you're free to go (for the summer!). If you cannot be there, then please do ask a fellow choir member to sort things for you - there's nothing worse for Jeannette than sorting your music for you during her summer break from all she does for us.

Prayers, please.....

George Norton, Anne Mitra, Mary & Frank Elliott, and Maria Leszczynska & Family. Hazel Timmins is now much improved. My Father, David, is happily regaining his mobility: thank you for your prayers. The Milligans are also going through a difficult period that warrants a prayer too.

No Coffee Morning 29th June

For the avoidance of doubt, we are not hosting a Coffee Morning on the 29th June.

REMINDER - Choir Outing 2015

Sensible suggestions welcomed, and should be offered before the end of August (this year!) please. These events need to be planned some months in advance......

Christmas is coming

I've had a number of people request that we repeat O Holy Night, so have added this to the Concert Programme. I've also had requests for Taverner's The Lamb (which is unaccompanied), and Gaudete, of which there are very many arrangements. If you wish to suggest anything else then please do let me know before we break up for the summer. No guarantees, but I'll listen! Jingle Bells anyone?!! I'd love to do it as our 2014 'lollipop'!!

Congratulations.....

..... to Rev. David Pattinson, erstwhile a Bass with us, who was ordained Deacon on 21st June at St. Michael's, Ashtead, Surrey.

July's Quiz Question

Who is the Patron Saint of Choirs? Simple one!!

The answer to May's question was 1963, or I would have accepted a year either side. Well done to Rosemary for being the only correct answer!

For your coffee breaks

Jingle Bells arr. Sir David Willcocks - just in case I can tempt you! I'm sure the gentlemen would be happy to 'do the hat thing' and I'm equally sure one of you would jingle the bells? Any volunteers?!!! HERE.

The new Foyle's bookshop, as explored by Diamond Geezer HERE.

If you strike that triangle on the wrong beat just once more, I'll, I'll....!!!

That well known sporting commentator and pundit, Boris Johnson, offers sage post-World Cup advice on the future of the English national football team HERE.

And finally, our very own spiv for those of you who haven't seen the picture HERE.
