St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE  OCTOBER 2015

A very brief edition this month....

Our October Mass

I have had to make a couple of changes to the music for the MM Mass with Bishop Pat that I proposed when we met on Tuesday. Sorry about the short notice. The revised list may be found HERE.

Our February Mass

Father Deo has happily given his consent to our February Mass utilising both the the organ and the orchestra to accompany it. Bernard and I are in the process of working through the logistics and drawing up the music list for the occasion.

The Orchestra and the Choir have joined together once before for an orchestral Mass, when Father Michael was with us, but I cannot for the life of me remember the occasion. Do any of you? Was it the Millennium Mass, perhaps? It was a failure on my part not to have recorded it on the Events listing on our Web site. Perhaps there's a record in our scrap books?

Father Carolin's Grave

Further to last month's words, please keep an eye on the latest Newsletter for details, and how much has been raised against the target to date.

August Holiday Word Search

Joan wins the Word Search, and she wins the remaining 'bottles' of wine for the only entry!! The answers are HERE. Quiz questions may be less frequent in future, to save me 'thinking them up'!!

Remembrance Day Concert

The Malcolm Sargent Festival Choir concert at Southwark Cathedral on Wednesday 11th November. All details HERE.

Prayers, please.....

Please continue to pray for Carole, Christine, Maria and Family, Anne Mitra and Mary & Frank Elliott. I'm delighted to receive news that prayers for a Choir member's Private Intention have been answered. Deo Gratias.

With Jeannette Storace-Rutter....

.... moving to Malta, I am reminded that from my two year's teaching at St. Mary's High School I now remember only two Choir members' children that I taught, namely Bernard Jupp and Patrick Ambler. Along with Paul Storace-Rutter, who so sadly died so young, they were very able and likeable young people.

Phil Gummett....

.... spent many years teaching at St. Mary's, and will be known to some of you. Sadly he recently passed away. He was a delightful and thoroughly supportive colleague and an active and devoted member of the Catholic Church wherever he was. A short piece from the Croydon Advertiser.

For your coffee breaks

Come and Sing event: Handel's Coronation Anthems at St. Martin in the Fields.

The 2016 Brandenburg Choral Festival of London: on the high seas around Greece and the Adriatic coast - be prepared to dig deep!!!

Whatever one might think about the design of this Chalice, it is hard to be less than thoughtful about the thinking behind it. Take time to see the work put into making it.

I wonder how many remember THIS in Croydon? I guess a few less than THIS!

An image taken before Albert Carr Gardens was built. 'The Chimes' for me was a second-hand shop next to Streatham Bus Garage all those years ago!

Sir David Willcocks

Having played a part in so many choirs' Christmases for such a huge number of years, his passing will be mourned by many. There is an excellent obituary HERE, and a little reminder of his gifts HERE - listen long enough and you'll hear how he directed O Holy Night. I'm delighted that we shall be joined for our Christmas Concert by a brass quintet from the Orchestra again this year, so we will no doubt be using a number of his carol arrangements!
