St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE  NOVEMBER 2015

With the Family Choir taking a break.....

..... there are a couple of occasions where we shall be needed. The first is the Confirmation Mass with Bishop Pat at 12 noon 15th November, and the second will be Maundy Thursday, 24th March at 8pm. I don't anticipate putting out a three line whip for the first, as it will be leading the singing, but the the Maundy Thursday Mass will be a formal sung Mass once again. We might, happily, return to having a Crowning of Our Lady and Benediction next year. This has yet to be confirmed. The latest Dates List is HERE.

November is busy!

With Poly Masses for All Saints on the 1st and Christ The King on the 22nd, then Mass again on  6th December, and then, once again, it's....

....Christmas!

We, and the brass of St. Bart's Orchestra, will certainly remember Sir David Willcocks's huge contribution to so many of our previous Christmas's after his passing in August. The 'most likely' Music List for the Concert, Midnight Mass and the Epiphany Mass will be available very soon. The original music to Adeste Fideles (© Fr. Tim Finnigan)

7th February 11:30 Poly Mass

Father Deo has agreed that this Mass will be celebrated with the Orchestra, as well as the organ, under the baton of their new conductor Florent de Bazelaire. More details in the New Year.

Prayers, please.....

.....for George Meyern, Christine, Maria & Family, Anne Mitra and Mary & Frank Elliott. Please also remember Ken's mother in your prayers.

A Great War Oratorio

Carshalton Choral Society host this event at All Saints, Carshalton, at 7.pm on Saturday 21st November. New music from Chris Wood, with soprano Margaret Cooper, narrative from Dick Bower and local musicians. Click on the pic to read the details.

Father Carolin's Grave

Further to last month's words, please keep an eye on the latest Newsletter for details, and how much has been raised against the target to date. The current dilapidated state of the grave is shown HERE. After discussion your Committee and I have agreed that the Choir will make up any shortfall from the bequest from Doris Weeds, which is something I believe all of you will thoroughly approve of. I know Doris would!

Family Synod

A wonderful intervention on Twitter from Cardinal Napier - click on the pic for a slightly more readable image.

Cardinal Arinze explains 'Conscience' in an interview for LifeSite HERE.

Deep Harmony

A new 360 page novel by Bath-based choir leader Grenville Jones.

Available from Amazon - hear them sing down the page HERE.

For your coffee breaks

The Municipal Organ - the largest pipe organ in the world. And from another well-known town hall in the southern hemisphere - note the 'third hand assistance' at 2:18!!

Catholic Church Architecture - a fascinating series of ten short thoughts (each 5-6 mins) from Dr. Denis McNamara on the concept of architectural theology.

Croydon in the 1970s - 13 minutes of footage that looks much older!! Fascinating commentary and an annoying watermark throughout!!

14th October: 75th Anniversary of the bomb that dropped in Balham killing 66 people.

Some terrific bird's-eye views of London from the BBC Web site.

The Friends of Mitcham Common regularly publish a journal called Magpie. The 90th edition is available to view HERE.

A lovely video of Didier Matry playing Gigout's famous Toccata - just four minutes, with the speakers turned up!

And finally, the Kit Kat story and the Magic Roundabout Quiz!
