St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE  APRIL 2016

Triduum 2016

Father Deo has said it all, from the front of the church at the end of the Vigil, and then again when he came up into  the gallery with a box of Easter Eggs for you all on Tuesday last.

A special word of thanks to our Cantors: thank you for singing so very well, and, most especially, for the preparation you put into your role ahead of the practices we had.

Well done to you all, and thank you very, very much.

The 2016 Music Workshop

Now Father Deo's visa issues have been resolved, and he most happily remains with us, he is going away for a while on his combined Christmas and Easter breaks to visit his mother, Oliva, who was 80 back in December. As a result things have had to be adjusted. The likely date of the Music Workshop has changed to Saturday 25 June; I have agreed to make an all-Masses appeal from the Ambo for new members for all the choirs on the 4/5 June.

Parish Processions

May Procession in the church with the Crowning of Our Lady is likely to be be on 8th May. Corpus Christi Procession from the church to Streatham Common for Benediction may be on 29th May.

Sorry I can't be more definite at the moment. I will confirm as soon as I am able to.

Our latest (5th April) Dates List may be found HERE.

Prayers, please.....

For Gordon Clark (happily, now home), Rosemary and their family. Mary & George Meyern, George Norton, Christine & Eugene, Maria & Family, Anne Mitra, Mary & Frank Elliott, Madeleine and her husband and two Choir members' special intentions. Also remember Ken's mother Patsy, Jeannette's mother, Hazel, Andrew's mother, Josie and Carole's husband Mike in your prayers.

Talk to Me!

What a wonderful idea (Catholic Herald):

Father Miller

A lovely picture of Father Miller in the downstairs hall. Deryck Guyler is sitting behind him. Who is the other priest? Date? Occasion? Click on the picture for a larger image.

Plainchant Choir

The next monthly practice takes place at 7.30pm promptly on Tuesday 12 April for the following Sunday's 11.30am Mass.

Family Choir

If you know of someone who may be interested in re-forming the Family Choir, then please do let me know. Both the clergy and I would really like to see a choir for the younger members of the parish community, whether it be very young, young, or teen. So far it has proved impossible to find someone with the appropriate skills prepared to offer the necessary commitment.

2016 Choir Outing 12th June

The date is still on, but the details have yet to be resolved as Father Kaz and his Order will be leaving the parish at around the time we had planned to visit.

For your coffee breaks

An interesting piece from the Catholic Herald on Liverpool's Catholic cathedral that never was.

For those of you who consider our local trains to be unreliable, uncomfortable and over-crowded.

I wonder how many of these you might be able to associate with Choir or Choir members?

I'll say no more!! A miracle of liturgical art: The Church of the Protection of the Mother of God at Yasenevo.

Why is the organ such hard work? Damian Thompson opines.

Proper incense to the fore! The Installation of Cardinal Ranier Maria Woelki as Archbishop of Cologne 20 September 2014. Parry's I was glad from a number of choirs that joined together for the occasion.

The Pylon Men (1966).

The 1941 suburban commute into London during WW2.

Macro photographs from David Gilliver - Little people in surreal surroundings.

Paper v. iPad or tablet - a big smile on your face when you watch this!

Donald Trump is now running for Pope!

A great announcement to passengers from a train driver.

The late Paul Daniels and his chop cup routine.

London's new airport opened in 1928. I don't remember it but I dare say many of you....!!?

HOW DO YOU EAR YOURS?
