First Communion Masses

Please may I make a plea to you all to attend the 12noon First Holy Communion Masses throughout May (not the 1st May). In the absence of a 'Family Choir' Teresa who heads up the catechists for these Masses has implored me to provide help with leading the singing. I shall be there for all, and playing for the final two of them. Thank you in advance.

Ordination News

God willing, parishioner Ged Perkins will be Ordained Deacon at 6.30pm Mass on Friday 17th June at St. George's Cathedral. He will serve St. Bart's. We wish him well as he approaches the end of his journey to Ordination. There will be more in the Parish Newsletter as the time approaches.

May and Corpus Christi Processions - changes from previous news

The May Procession in the church with the Crowning of Our Lady is likely to be be on 8th May. The planned Corpus Christi Procession will now parochial, from hall to church, on 29th May. Neither of these occasions will be formal Choir events, but I do hope you will be able to attend and lead the singing.

The 2016 Music Workshop

Confirmed as Saturday 25 June; and singing at the 6.15 Mass to bring things to conclusion. I will be making an all-Masses appeal to parishioners to sign-up and participate on the 4/5 June.

Prayers, please.....

Please pray for the safe and happy repose of Ken's mother, Patsy Hopkins, who passed away on 29th April, and also for the passing of Gordon Clark's step-mother Chris - may they rest in everlasting peace. I believe I'm correct in saying that it was Chris who drew the picture of St. Bart's that appeared for so many years at the head of the parish Newsletter.

Prayers also for Mary & George Meyern, George Norton, Christine & Eugene, Maria & Family, Anne Mitra, Mary & Frank Elliott, Madeleine and her husband and two Choir members' special intentions.

Please also remember Jeannette's mother, Hazel, Andrew's mother, Josie and Carole's husband, Mike in your prayers.

The Jutland Concert

Details HERE. The Sea Symphony is a wonderful piece, and Vaughan Williams wrote a part in the orchestration for wind machine!

Father Miller

The unidentified priest in the picture I aired last month may be Father Charles Byrne, the previous parish priest at St. Bart's, who had had the foresight to purchase for the parish the building that would become the church hall, opened by Deryck Guyler in September 1959.

First Communions 1963.....

Is any one able to put names to faces 53 years later?!! One is David Steiert....

Plainchant Choir

The next monthly practice will take place at 7.30pm promptly on Tuesday 10 May even though there will be no Plainchant Mass during the month.

Family Choir

If you know of someone who may be interested in re-forming the Family Choir, then please do let me know. Both the clergy and I would really like to see a choir for the younger members of the parish community, whether it be very young, young, or teen. So far it has proved impossible to find someone with the appropriate skills prepared to offer the necessary commitment.

2016 Choir Outing 12th June

The date is now firm. Travel, lunch and music times and details in due course.

Cantors and the sound system

Please be assured that the parish is very much aware that the sound amplification system in the church is not functioning, and that it is often almost impossible to hear the words from the sanctuary up in the gallery.

The matter is in the process of being addressed, though it may be quite some time until it is rectified. In the meantime, I'd be grateful if cantors would ensure they 'sing to the gallery' in the knowledge that they will then be heard throughout the church. Those of you who are readers might also take note. Many thanks.

For your coffee breaks

Sid James narrates Look at Life - The Market.

Listen to George Thalben-Ball's Desert Island Discs (1959).

You might like to follow Norbury Photographs. Rather nostalgic. I don't believe you need to be a FaceBook member to view. The bombing of Norbury during WWII has recently featured.

Two from the Diamond Geezer: March Easters and The Museum of Brands, Packaging & Advertising.

Follow your Member of Parliament and see how active he or she is.

Inside Heathrow's secret railway station.

The woman who married a cat.

Derelict Victorian tunnel to open to the public.

Classic Movie Themes in 3D Video: don't just watch, use your mouse the move the screen around!

A wonderful look at Steinway Pianos, their history and their manufacturing processes.

The Southern Railway in 1937 - this is a long cup of coffee's worth of viewing!

The resurgence of vinyl records in 2016. Watch the video at the top of the page.

A few of the 'more interesting' or unusual, events happening outside London during May!
