St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE OCTOBER 2016

Parish Music Workshop - Saturday 15th October

Details will be available to parishioners at all Masses on 1/2 October. The programme of music will be drawn up after Tuesday 11th October, by which time I hope to have a clearer indication of the level of interest, who will be attending and their voice parts and the resultant possibilities for the music to be prepared. I do hope the occasion attracts a goodly number of people.

Jeannette will need (if she is able to be present) some assistance with the Cream Teas at the interval - please speak to her on Tuesday if you are able to help.

Christmas 2016

Regrettably, I have agreed with Bernard that the suggestion that a wind quintet from the Orchestra join us for the concert was not ideal. We shall be 'on our own'. Julie will once again read for us. I am aiming to have a very straightforward Christmas this year. That said, we will still revisit Rutter's Shepherd's Pipe Carol as promised, and return to the Ronald Corp Christmas Mass we sang last year.

The importance of the final rehearsal at 2.30pm on Saturday 10th December cannot be stressed enough. It is pretty galling for Choir Members who have done their utmost to be there to have people rolling-in on Concert night (rant over!).

Prayers, please

Joe Ryan is making very slow, but encouraging, progress on what will be a very long journey to recovery after his terrible accident - please do continue remember him, Jeannette and their extended family.

Please pray harder for George Meyern who is in increasing need, and for Mary and their family.

Pray also for the safe and happy repose of Sabina's sister Elizabeth's soul after her passing on 8th August last.

Also to be remembered: George Norton, Christine & Eugene, Maria & Family, Anne Mitra, Mary & Frank Elliott, Madeleine and her husband and two Choir members' special intentions. Please also remember Jeannette's mother Hazel, Andrew's mother Josie and Carole's husband Mike in your prayers.

Christmas 2016 - more!

Please do print out, and have a little look at, Sleep! Holy Babe! which is also now in your folders. It would be so helpful to have you familiar with is by the time we come to start learning the piece. We will start looking at this in early October. It would be good to have your efforts before-hand bearing fruit.

Antony

As you now now know, we will be seeing less of Antony this term. Thankfully he has committed to being with us for the Tuesday before, and Sundays, we sing.

We are very grateful to him for that. As always I do not expect him to be with us for Christmas Midnight Mass.

Coffee Morning 30 October

Ken (as Chef) is likely to be around, as, of course, will I. Bacon and sausage sandwiches and cakes as last time would seem to be best, especially as the days grow colder! Please do put into your diaries to remind you to help out on the day as much as you are able to.

More nearer the time.

Cantors

7.45pm Practices: Andrew 1st November, Ken 15th November, Richard 29th November and John 20th December. Please note in your diaries.

Plainchant Choir

The next practice will take place at 7.30pm on Tuesday 11th October to prepare for Mass on 16th October.

Dates List

I remind you that the latest Dates List may be printed from HERE. If you have any problem with this then do ask me for a paper copy on Tuesday.

Rome 1990 & 1994

It has often been suggested that we have an evening to view the old Rome videos from 1990 and 1994 - they will probably frighten a number of us 25+ years on!!!.... That said, I'm happy to arrange this, along with a few drinks and nibbles. Let me know.

Good Luck.....

To Carole and Mike Winch in their new home in Seaford that they will be hopefully enjoying from 1st October.

For your coffee breaks

The High-rise and Fall of  Croydon, and its modern architecture as a slide-show.

The great organist Daniel Roth plays Mendelssohn's piano Prelude and Fugue in E minor on the organ of Saint-Sulpice, Paris.

Bishop Amigo and the Irish Uprising of 1916 from our Diocesan Archives.

Six minutes on the irrepressible Eric Sykes.

A fascinating piece on the Dinosaurs in Crystal Palace Park and their ongoing dereliction.

I wonder if any of you know what the item in the picture below commemorates - again it's in Crystal Palace Park? Answer next time.

A series of wonderful pics of Sutton to Reigate in 1921.

The original pilot episode of Steptoe & Son.

The day in 1967 when Sweden turned right.

And finally, a couple of minutes on Grammar.
