St. Swithun's, Southsea Mass 11 June (Trinity Sunday) at 10:15

*The Coach will leave the bottom of Green Lane at 07:45 ON THE DOT!*

The PROVISIONAL Music for the occasion may be found HERE. We will, sadly (!), not be travelling on a vintage London bus!!

Corpus Christi Procession Sunday 18 June at 16:00

There will be a short Corpus Christi Procession form the Hall to the Church, followed by Benediction. It would be good if you were able to attend and lead the singing.

Father Paul's Leaving Occasion 24 June at 18:15

Father Paul's farewell occasion looks likely to take place during and after the 18:15 Mass on Saturday 24 June. As soon as I know if we are to be formally involved I will let you know. After yesterday's Choir Practice, we had collected £100 for a gift to Father Paul - I shall divide this between these two books (1 2), a card for us all to sign and a cheque for £50.

Confirmations with Bishop Pat Friday 30 June at 19:00

A provisional music programme is being drawn up according to the Candidates requests (Sorry Joan!!). It's good to be involved in Confirmations again after a period with the Family Choir supporting them on the feast of Christ the King!

Music for next Easter

Do you remember Pietro Yon's Gesù Bambino that we sung a couple of years ago at Christmas? I have just discovered his Victimae Paschali Laudes, and have a mind to think about it for next Easter.

Open the score HERE, and then scroll down to follow along with the performance HERE. We would obviously have an organ accompaniment not (much as I might love the timps!) an orchestra + organ!! Listen out for that one bar that would 'exercise' the sopranos!!

Vivaldi Gloria Concert

I would really like us to do a concert with the Orchestra in 2018, and am aware that we have a full set of Vivaldi Gloria scores in our music archive.

What do you think? Perhaps with a Handel Organ Concerto and an orchestral overture.

We would hopefully do this in association with All Saints Carshalton. Timing is a long way from being discussed, let alone agreed. I am currently exploring Saturday 12 May.

I am thinking of opening up the first hour of a number of consecutive Choir practices prior to the occasion to anyone who might like to learn and perform it with us; we may, perhaps, find that some who are enthused would come and then stay on for the remainder of the practices and, in time, join us.

Do let me have your thoughts as soon as possible, please.

Choir Party 2017

Many thanks, once again, to Jane organising the food with you all for the occasion. I have been booked for the ham again!

Plainchant Choir

The next practice will take place on 13 June for the 11:30 Corpus Christi Mass Mass on 18 June. No practice 11 July.

Cantors

19:45 Practices: John 30 May, Ken 6 June and Andrew 27 June.

Forthcoming Music/Dates List

June's Music List HERE, St. Swithun's HERE, Confirmations' HERE, July's HERE, September's HERE, Choir's September Thanksgiving Mass HERE and October's HERE. The latest Dates List for your diaries is HERE.

Thanks to you all for the First Holy Communion Masses in May

From me, and (most vociferously after the 7 May Mass and at the subsequent PPC Meeting) from Teresa Furtado who runs the Parish FHC Programme, for all your help in leading the singing for this year's FHC Masses. It was, and is still being, hugely appreciated.

Our Stainer CDs

We've had a sudden flurry of orders for our two Stainer CDs as a result of THIS recent article in Church Times.

As a result we have now completely sold out of our recording of The Crucifixion.

Prayers, please

Terry Jupp's sister Susan, Ken's niece, Carole Winch, Mary & Frank Elliott, Christine, Maria & Family, and Jeannette's mother Hazel all remain in need of prayers.

Please also remember my parents, Sheila and David..................

For your coffee breaks

A Thought on Reverence.

The similarities between Winnie the Pooh and religious texts.

Who remembers the British Transport Museum in the former Clapham Bus Garage? It spawned the National Railway Museum (1975) at York  and the London Transport Collection (1973) in Syon Park. The latter moved in 1980 and became the London Transport Museum in Covent Garden we know today.

The 20 types of people you'll meet at Mass.

Traditional Latin Mass at the European Parliament.

And you thought some of the more 'liberal' elements of The Catholic Church could be whacky! Worcester Cathedral in one of its finest moments!!

Dr. Bill Frankland treated me for hay fever at the Allergy Clinic at St. Mary's, Paddington whilst I was at primary school and, in the 80s/90s, worked with me as a fellow trustee of the National Asthma Campaign (now Asthma UK) - still going strong at 105!!
