St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE AUGUST 2017

Parish Annual General Meeting

Do put 11 October at 19:45 into your diaries. It's an opportunity for all of us to have an input into parish life, and help form the year ahead. The draft of the Poly Choir report that will be submitted for the occasion may be read HERE.

Choir Party 2017

What a truly wonderful evening - we are so blessed to have so many people who are prepared to laugh, cry, sing, worship and work together.

The spread of food was just amazing; thank you all who contributed to it, one way or the other, and to all who organised the evening to ensure the occasion was such a huge success.

Thanks especially to Father Deo for continuing to provide our drinks for the evening as a 'thank you' from the parish.

Vivaldi Gloria Concert

Not forgotten. Progress report after the summer break.

The August Jigsaw - another simple one, with just 48 pieces again! Drag and drop, and.... are you missing Tuesday evenings!!

Christmas Music

I am aiming to have the draft Christmas Music programme together by mid-August.

Tuesday 9 January 2018.....

..... is our first Tuesday Practice after Christmas. This is an early warning that the same evening also sees the first of the 2018 parish First Holy Communion sessions for parents in the hall, so parking may be an issue if you cannot arrive on the early side of eight.

So that just leaves me to say.....

Have a really wonderful summer holiday!! There's a Committee meeting on Monday 18 September (let me know if you want anything raised for discussion, please).

I look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday 19 September for just the one practice for our Annual Mass of Thanksgiving on the following Tuesday at 8pm.

Plainchant Choir

Jane will advise you if there is to be a practice on Tuesday 12 September  for the Plainchant Mass on 17 September.

Cantors

19:45 Practices: Jeannette 26 September, Ken 31 October, Richard 21 November and John 28 November.

Forthcoming Music/Dates List

September's Thanksgiving Mass HERE, and October's HERE. The latest Dates List for your diaries is HERE.

Prayers, please

Anne Timmins (née Jones) RIP.

John Windsor, Terry Jupp's sister Susan, Ken's niece, Carole Winch, Mary & Frank Elliott, Maria & Family, and Jeannette's mother Hazel all remain in need of prayers.

For your coffee breaks

To get you into the mood for the coming term Count von Count and organist Richard Elliott.

In a surreal moment from BBC's Points of View in 1962, Sir Stanley Unwin meets Bill & Ben! Not known for his reticence, Sir Stanley eloquently explains the workings of the pipe organ.

50+ years of jazz comes to an end in Thornton Heath. Many happy memories!!

Dorothy Lowe's memories of WW2 in Norbury.

17 minutes of 1950s nostalgia explaining a bit about the mysteries of cricket!

Mike Oldfield's 1973 Tubular Bells album re-imagined for brass.

Eucharistic Prayers (from 2014).

And finally, Five Minute Sermons.

HOW DO YOU EAR YOURS?

Cadbury introduced the classic Creme Egg advertising slogan ‘How Do You Eat yours?’ in 1985. What was the most popular answer?

- bite off the top, lick out the Creme then eat the chocolate (53 per cent)

- bite straight through (20 per cent)

- use your finger to scoop out the Creme (16 per cent)
