St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE OCTOBER 2017

Parish Annual General Meeting

Please do try and attend on 11 October at 19:45. It's an opportunity for all of us to have an input into parish life, and help form the year ahead. Light refreshments will be serviced.

Christmas Music

The very draft programme is HERE. There is much to be discussed before it is finalised. As soon as Antony has confirmed that he is able to join us, and the Orchestra have indicated what they may be able to participate in I hope to finalise the music pdq!

Choir's 50th Birthday

As most of you will be aware, The Choir will celebrate its 50th Birthday on 19 September 2019.

Archbishop Peter provisionally has the 11:30 Mass on Sunday 22 September in his diary to celebrate Mass with us for the occasion, and Father Deo has confirmed that there will be a celebration in the hall afterwards.

The October Jigsaw - a bit more difficult this time - 55 pieces! How well do you know 'our' window?! Drag and drop, and.... good luck!

Plainchant Choir

Practice on Tuesday 10 October for Plainchant Mass on 15 October and 7 November for Remembrance Mass on 12 November.

Cantors

19:45 Practices: Ken 31 October, Richard 21 November and John 28 November.

Vivaldi Gloria Concert

After much consideration I am deferring the Vivaldi Gloria to 2019. I appreciate some of you may be disappointed, but I do not consider it a practical proposition to be learning the work in 2018 without an organist, especially in the run up to the Triduum and all it entails. My thoughts about opening the early part of practices from January onwards on the run up to the performance will remain in place.

I am considering starting the learning of James Lyon’s St. Christopher Mass from January next year, and may well adopt the same ‘open house’ for the first part of a number of pre-timetables practices. We shall not be time-limited with this, and can introduce each part of the Mass into the repertoire as and when it’s ready.

Prayers, please

Veronica's sister Monica, John Windsor, Terry Jupp's sister Susan, Ken's niece Bree, Carole Winch, Mary & Frank Elliott, Maria & Family, and Jeannette's mother Hazel all remain in need of prayers.

Forthcoming Music/Dates List

October's HERE, November's HERE. The latest Dates List for your diaries is HERE.

2018 FHC & Confirmation Masses

As an early heads-up, the First Communion Masses in 2018 are currently timetabled to run at 12:00 from 10 June to 1 July. The July FHC Mass will be the Going Forth Mass – should we be asked to participate, I expect the music programme to be the same as that we sung this year, so we should have a relaxed end to the term!

Bishop Pat has indicated he will confer Confirmations on Pentecost Sunday, 20 May, at a time to be announced. This will obviously affect the Plainchant Choir, but it would be good if, once again, you were able to be present to help lead the singing.

For your coffee breaks

Enriching the Novus Ordo Mass from Tradition - Father John Zuhlsdorf comments.

A feature on Thames River Thames Services HERE. Oyster friendly!

Unbuilt London: The Crystal Span Bridge.

Six Million views and rising - the British Airways Safety Video (Director's Cut).

Going to the Emoji Confessional.

Precision Marching Japanese Style! 21 Million views and rising!

Robin Day hosts Panorama's footage of man's first steps on the moon (1969).

Ten places to find your old £1 coins before shops refuse them.

Joanna Lumley - 13 minutes of trying to keep order with late greats Secombe & Milligan.

The fascinating history of Streatham Vale from The SVPOA.

All the 2011 census information from Norbury - some might find it interesting to drill into?!

Tuesday 9 January 2018.....

..... is our first Tuesday Practice after Christmas. This is an early warning that the same evening also sees the first of the 2018 parish First Holy Communion sessions for parents in the hall, so parking may be an issue if you cannot arrive on the early side of eight.
