St. Bartholomew's Polyphony Choir UPDATE JANUARY 2022

Dear all,

I've eventually managed to find a working copy of the ancient software I use for the Poly Website (thank you eBay!), which I lost when my 'puter fell over in the summer. A salutary reminder that there's more to regularly back up than just personal files and pics!! Hopefully you all do regular backups of the things that matter to you.

I've now updated our Poly Website, with a light touch to make it more mobile-friendly, and now return with a new Update!

Christmas 2021

Thank you all so much for all you did to ensure we made the occasions possible. I was really delighted with the Carol Service (there were some very special moments - A maiden most gentle and O men from the fields were particularly lovely), and Midnight Mass went really nicely - Night of Silence stood out for me; thank you so much for getting the balance right in that final verse. Well done to Richard, unexpectedly our sole Bass at Midnight Mass, and to our two Altos for standing firm! Also to Jeannette for standing in for Molly at Midnight Mass at short notice. Everyone has been so appreciative of our singing at this difficult time which is lovely!

New Year 2022

As things stand it looks as if our 2 January 11:30 Mass will go ahead as planned. We'll have to keep our fingers crossed for our 4 January drinks and nibbles! I'll take a view nearer the time and will be in touch if there are any last minute changes - keep an eye on your emails, please, just in case.

Choir Dates List 2022

The latest Dates List of 1 January 2022 is to be found here. I've had to make a small number of 'accommodations' to the proposed Cantor dates, so please would Cantors take note and revise their diaries accordingly.

2 January's Poly Mass

The Music List will be found here. It is unchanged since the Christmas Music List was circulated.

16 January's Plainchant Mass

The Music List will be found here. We shall have a short practice at 19:30 on 11 January - please note.

6 February's Poly Mass

The Music List will be found here. We shall need to put in a bit work on the Mass as it's a fairly new addition to our repertoire.

And finally.....

I wish you all, and yours you're closest to, a very happy, healthy and tuneful New Year.

Love, Tony x

Sheila Newman RIP.....

..... celebrated her 99th birthday on 8 July and then, sadly, passed away on 9 October. A long-serving soprano before she retired, she was often the life and soul of the party! She was instrumental in nurturing the huge Missio/APF collections from parishioners at Bart's over so many years. It was so lovely to be able to have such a significant Choir presence at her funeral Mass on 10 November. May she rest in eternal peace.......

Frances Carter RIP.....

..... sadly, passed away on 27 December. A long-serving soprano before she became wheelchair-bound, she was a huge personality who overcame so many difficulties over her lifetime. Many will remember her as a Group Leader from the HCPT Lourdes Pilgrimages in the late 1970s. I will let everyone know as soon as her Funeral Mass details are available, and have informed Father Deo that there will hopefully be a Poly Choir presence in the gallery for the occasion. May she rest in eternal peace.......

Prayers, please

Please do keep John in your prayers as his treatment continues.

Please also continue to pray for Jane (as she continues with her treatment of, and operations on, her eyes), Terry J., Rosemary (as she recovers from her operation) and Mary & Frank Elliott. I've still heard nothing from Eddie - I do hope he's okay; he's not responded to my 'phone calls or texts recently.... does anyone know his address?

Veronica has said she'll be back with us when the pandemic is declared over, and Christine once she's had her Booster, so that's good!

St. Bart's Memories No. 46

Press release image from the Croydon Advertiser, 1990 - a few days before this, Anne and I appeared on Croydon Cable TV - I wore my then-favourite Harris Tweed jacket, and was told to remove it when on camera as its dog-tooth check upset the picture quality! A local choir going to sing in 'the Vatican' was evidently newsworthy!
